About the Artist

Spencer has always been an artist, exploring different mediums and ways to express herself since early childhood. Whether it was braiding grass and making mudpies or drawing in her sketchbook and designing paper outfits, Spencer was always doing something creative. Spencer was inspired by her sisters drawings and would copy them in her own sketchbook. She also loved to practice drawing her family members, usually using photos as reference, but sometimes attempting to draw them from life.

Spencer took a few creative electives in high school, but it wasn’t until after her first child was born in her 20’s when she took her first oil painting class at a local community college. It was during this beginner class when she curated her first art show in attempt to raise money for lupus awareness. A few years later, Spencer took a beginning watercolor class, which rewarded her a first-place award in a student art show and propelled her into the gallery world.

Although Sencer took two beginning art classes in college, she believes herself to be primarily self-taught, learning mostly by practice and self-discipline. She prefers to work in oil, but doesn’t restrict herself, and believes that exploration and play in different mediums allows growth as an artist.

She began sharing and selling her work online in 2018, working mostly by commission sales. In 2021, Spencer received her first online publication in San Franciscos oldest literary and art magazine.

Since then, her work has been seen in multiple group exhibitions across the US and has been published in magazines such as In her Studio and VoyageAustin.

In 2022, Spencer announced her first collection called the Motherhood Series, paintings based specifically on the intricacies of what it means to be a mom. In 2023, Spencer released a small collection of paintings titled “Travel Series: Moab”.

Currently, Spencer is building a new body of work, inspired by the mundane moments of life and raising her children. Spencer continues to work in portraiture and figurative subject matter that is inspired by everyday life as a mother and woman.
